About The Team
HERE Platform Solutions Architecture team is embedded inside a horizontal architecture group which has the responsibility of defining the target architecture of platform products at HERE. Given its unique horizontal position in the organization, the architecture group has a deep visibility and influence over how various software products are designed, implemented and maintained at HERE. While individual architects have deep understanding of specific products and domains, the real strength of architecture team comes from its culture of cross collaboration and knowledge sharing within the group. Solution architecture team has an additional function of bringing customer-centricity to the group. The team works with strategic HERE customers spread across the world to build solutions for their usecases by leveraging HERE location platform. In addition to creating significant customer value, the team brings back rich insights and experience from the field which then helps further shaping of product architecture and portfolio. The results produced by this team have direct impact on customer success and hence also on HERE’s competitiveness and success. Given the criticality of work done in Solution Architecture group, it is quite common for the team to be in customer and management spotlight while at the same time engaging with engineers on finer technical details.
The team consists of around 9 architects with varying level of experience and diverse backgrounds, but a like-minded attitude towards continuous learning, knowledge sharing and collective success. The team members share a common desire to apply their expertise to create actual customer value. A common trait in the team is their ability to look wide across multiple systems and also go deep into specific components when required. We are looking to reinforce our Solution Architecture team to manage an increasing line-up of our customers.
About The Role
A Senior Principal Architect is expected to contribute towards HERE's success by enabling HERE customers to succeed through a high quality and effective technical partnership as well as leadership.
As an architect, you will be responsible for deliberate, clear and consistent system designs to seamlessly integrate various products and services that are owned by HERE, partners and customers into a unified system architecture.You will be working closely with engineering teams across different internal and external organizations to build out systems that solve for customer's requirements in an efficient, scalable and cost-effective way.You will be responsible defining and communicating key technical interfaces as integration points across systems. It is expected that architecture deliveries are validated through representative prototypes/PoCs. The Solution
Out company enables customers to build, deploy, and manage location-based applications on our cloud infrastructure. With powerful abstractions, state-of-the-art building blocks, and cutting-edge cloud technologies, our map making platform allows customers to ingest, store, share, and analyze location data in real-time. Data can be combined, enriched, and shared among platform members, unlocking even greater potential.
As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical leadership and delivery of key initiatives across the platform. You will guide architectural decisions, mentor engineers across teams, and collaborate closely with leadership to define the long-term vision of our systems. This is a highly impactful role where you’ll shape the engineering roadmap, ensure technical excellence, and drive innovation at scale.
This position is based at our Schwalbach office.
Responsibilities:
Lead the design and development of core backend systems with a focus on scalability, security, and reliability.Serve as a technical authority and mentor, supporting the growth of engineers across multiple teams.Partner with product, architecture, and leadership to translate business goals into actionable engineering plans.Drive architectural direction, technical roadmaps, and platform strategy.Set and uphold high standards for engineering practices, code quality, and team collaboration.Influence platform-wide technology decisions and drive the adoption of best practices.Coordinate and oversee the successful delivery of complex cross-team projects.Foster a culture of ownership, inclusion, innovation, and continuous improvement.Who are you?
Required Skills and Experience:
8+ years of backend engineering experience with a strong track record in Java.Deep expertise in system architecture, distributed systems, and large-scale backend design.Experience leading technical projects and mentoring engineers at various levels.Advanced knowledge of APIs, networking (TCP/IP), and cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS).Strong database design and optimization experience, with PostgreSQL/PLpgSQL expertise.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across disciplines.Proven ability to take initiative, solve complex problems, and deliver in ambiguous environments.Experience working in an agile environment with CI/CD and DevOps practices.Nice to Have:
Background in geospatial systems, data pipelines, or spatial analytics.Proficiency in Scala, , or other relevant languages.Experience with Apache Spark or similar distributed data processing technologies.Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud-native microservices.What we offer:
